Graduate Studies

Graduate StudentsThe school's graduate program, one of the nation's most distinguished programs in journalism and mass communication, offers master's and doctoral degrees.

Total enrollment in the two-year master's program usually totals about 50 students, with 25-30 new students enrolling each fall. Another 40 students are enrolled in the doctoral program, which admits 10-12 new students each year and normally requires three to four years to complete.

Mentored by collegial faculty members who are nationally and internationally known for their work in journalism and mass communication, the school's graduate students consistently win top awards at academic conferences and in professional competitions. Graduates of the master's program take professional jobs or continue their academic studies as Ph.D. students. Ph.D. graduates typically seek teaching and research jobs at universities, but several have taken jobs as top professionals in their fields.

The school also offers a graduate-level Certificate in Technology and Communication, which is taught completely online and requires no travel to campus. Students earn the certificate by taking any four of the five courses in the program. Aimed at working professionals, the program usually takes one to two years to complete. It is administered by the school's Office of Professional Education.
